NCRAT Weekly Update 10-9-20

  • Corn silage is essentially off. Recent frosts have sped up dry down significantly. Yields are low in most drought-impacted areas, but not too bad across the rest of NNY. Soybeans and grain corn is being combined. Not too many yield reports yet.
  • Hemp regulations may undergo another, yet unknown change in the next few weeks. NYS, USDA and other states, are renegotiating recent changes to hemp regulations for NYS and will probably have news over the next few weeks. There is still some 2019 hemp biomass in the region without a market.
  • We are assisting with some yield contest entries this week. Still getting questions about soils sampling and fall management of weedy row crop fields, pastures and hay fields. Also inquiries about late-planted winter cover crops.
