Weekly Update 11-20-20

  • Corn harvest continues with few weather interruptions and with yields reported as ‘not too bad.’
  • Forage inventories are tight on many farms with some farms needing to purchase hay or silage. Remember to share the https://nysforageexchange.com/ website which facilitates farmer-to-farmer hay and silage transactions. The website is moderated and is a nice option for avoiding craigslist and Facebook marketplace.
  • The 2020 drought continues, with most all of the North Country still in Abnormally Dry or Moderate Drought categories.
  • She team is working with SWCD and a few farms in Clinton and Essex Counties to upgrade corn planters for No-till planting through a grant secured by Pete Hagar.
  • Working on details for hosting a "virtual" agribusiness field crop weed control discussion. The plan is to share the results of some of our on-farm research results and talk about strategic weed control planning as we prepare for the upcoming growing season.
  • Summarizing the last of the on-farm research trial results and putting them into useable written materials and presentation formats.
  • Preparing upcoming virtual talks/presentations that will be held this winter
