Garden Symposium is Back!

Come visit us to learn all about gardening!

After 8 years, we have heard your calls for a fan favorite and have decided to bring it back! Garden Symposium is a grand event where we get a variety of experts to come together and teach you a whole host of garden-related information. The event lasts all day, technically, but you can choose as many or as few classes as you'd like. Here are the options this year:

Class 1A: Seed Starting with Joann Trombly

This class will guide you through the essential steps to ensure your plants thrive from the very beginning. Learn about what soil to use, containers, lighting, fertilization and watering techniques, and go home with some planted seeds to try it yourself!

Class 2A: Composting with Pierre-Luc Gelineau

Learn or revisit the simplicity of composting, consider the opportunities beyond the backyard compost bin. Above all, this session focuses on what makes different types of compost a great addition to your garden soils to truly bring life and community into your gardens.

Class 3A: Gardening in the Shade with Linda Noyes

A shade garden can be vibrant and colorful! “Gardening in the Shade” will focus on perennial flowers, shrubs and groundcovers that provide color and texture, from Spring to Fall.

Class 4A: Pollinators in Your Garden and Beyond: The Buzz About Bees with Kathy Linker

This is an introduction to the wonderful world of plant pollinators. With a focus on native bees, their habitat, life cycle and their jam-packed pollinating power; by the end you’ll come to love, rather than fear, these little flying critters. You’ll leave with some pollinator seed paper and information on how to make your garden bee-friendly.

Class 1B: Easy Veggies to Grow with Andrea Farrell

This is a beginning vegetable gardening class, with a goal of preparing you to be ready to grow your own garden. Geared for beginners and those looking to grow their skill set.

Class 2B: Vegetable Garden Planning with Betsy Brooks

Master the art of planning a successful vegetable garden, from selecting the right plants for your space to optimizing layout and crop rotation. This class will help you create a thoughtful, productive garden that thrives all season long.

Class 3B: Grape Troubleshooting with Jeremy Schuster

Grapevines are poor communicators when they’re in trouble. Their symptoms might come from a mix of different issues, and some of them can be so subtle that you hardly notice. This class is here to help you recognize the common pests and diseases that can affect grapevines, even when they’re not making it obvious that something is wrong.

Class 4B: Gardening with Children with Chelsea Denny and Kari Lamkins

Introduce children to the joys of gardening through fun, hands-on activities that teach them about plants, nature, and responsibility. This class will provide creative ideas for engaging kids in the garden while fostering a love for growing.

--------------------------------------------

The event starts at 9:30am with a welcome and introduction (and, of course, refreshments!). There is a 1-hour break for lunch at 12pm, where you can bring your lunch and eat in the building's cafeteria, or you can explore some of the nearby options for dining.

Track A and Track B will be running at the same time, so you will choose between the classes. This is what the overall schedule looks like:
